So you go a bit of water in your home space.  So what!  Right?  Well, there is a bit more to it.  Ever notice when the seasons change, some floors that were once quiet are now squeaky?  Ever notice that a door that sicks for one season, opens and closes with ease other times?  Did you know that insects are more common in moist, demo posting areas as opposed to clean and bone dry ones?  Not only does this occur in crawl spaces but also, attics, frosted windows. Moisture, as discussed before, has a direct effect on the dew point and relative humidity.  This, in turn, makes your heating and cooling system work harder to maintain desired environmental conditions.  It is also interesting that the structural integrity, as well as the lifespan of most all given construction materials, are adversely affected by moisture.  Moisture in the home is conducive to organic life, increasing the likelihood of allergens, pollens, and poor air quality.  Another significant issue on your health is whether your ducts are located in your crawlspace or elsewhere.  Any leak in the duct draws air from the crawlspace and blows it directly into your home and lungs.  Maybe your thinking; ‘What is a small hole in my ductwork gonna hurt’.  Well, if you did not know ducts are assembled in sections.  If one joint is not properly sealed, chances are of the hundreds of linear feet of ductwork, there are more holes.  This puts the crawl under pressure, pushing the crawlspace air into the home.

Conversely, you are placing your living space under negative pressure.  Sucking in the air that normally would not be introduced to what you are breathing.  This problem speeds up the decline of the air quality in your home.   Is there a perfect, “hermetically” sealed duct system in the United States?  Possibly, but your chances of owning one of these are much lower than winning the lottery.  Let’s not forget about how dirty air is perpetuated by moist air and causes more health issues than most realize.
