Arrayofsolutions.com speaking about mold and how it may affect you. If this is the first article you have read of mine, my name is Douglas Whitehead.  The name of my company is ‘Arrayofsolutions.com’ and can be found on Facebook under the same name with the page named; Array of Solutions.  The name of my company would probably not initially lead one to believe that I deal with mold.  However, why I chose this name and legally claim it is this;  Mold is not a simple issue and in order to maintain a level of expertise, I have to deploy a plethora of methods in treating, testing and remediating fungus.  Let me begin with a premise;  Water seeks the lowest level.  This makes crawl-spaces, basements or lowest levels the most likely to experience moisture and then mold.  In some situations, such as crowded cities with lots of concrete and high rise buildings, you can’t dig up the foundation to stop the water.  If you MUST allow water in and pump it out, there are few basic rules.  The pump must be located at the lowest spot in the area.  A membrane or liner must be in place.  The lid must be airtight.  The pump should be cast iron with a float switch. (and a back up in case of power outage)  Should be twenty-one to twenty-three inches deep. Be sure to have a ‘Studor Vent’ to prevent back-flow.  (google for more info.)  And lastly, it should be accessible in the event of maintenance or failure.  I could go on and on about the different varieties of pumps, however, ‘Arrayofsolutions.com’  prefers to stop the water from coming in, not letting it in and pumping it out.

Now a little bit about ‘Arrayofsolutions.com’ methodology.  There are two basic methods when dealing with a mold issue.  (or any problem at all).

1; Treat the result of the problem.  Analogy; Putting a band-aid on cancer.

2;  Find out why cancer is present, and address the core contributing cause.  Simply put,  when the cause is addressed, it can maintain in remission.  Mold is caused by moisture.  Many people in my field will deal with this in the first way.  Allow the water in the home, create a path of least resistance or lead it to a single location, then pump it out for the life of the home.  ‘Arrayofsolutions.com’ has turned down many jobs because I have learned that by allowing water into the home will increase the chance of trouble.  Sometimes it is absolutely impossible to avoid having water enter the home, but ‘Arrayofsolutions.com’ would rather go the extra mile to keep water out and clean air in.

In closing, I will no longer be discussing sump pumps because ‘Arrayofsolutions.com’ can and has found ways to not need them.  Till next time,
Douglas R. Whitehead II
