Douglas Whitehead, mold expert, and owner of Arrayofsolutions.com.  If one person reads this article, I would be satisfied.  I write articles every day about air quality issues and facts and information that everyone can benefit from.   The purpose of this article is to emphasize that what you don’t see can hurt you.  In staying on my ‘crawlspace‘ theme, let’s talk about the air in your home.  Hot air rises.  Knowing this is correct, where does hot air go once it rises?  It finds openings and voids to keep rising and eventually escape from the highest levels.  Once gone, new air must take its place.  Where does that air come from?  Based on science, air emanates from the lowest level in your home or business. One speaker said that the air in your home may be completely exchanged as much as one and one half to two times per hour.  We could call this a ‘stacking effect’ if you will. Air flows from the lowest level upward.  Beginning in the crawlspace, rising to the first floor, then to the second, then to the attic or third floor, etc, etc..  Another expert told me that as much as fifty-five percent of the air we breathe on the first floor comes from the crawl space.  If you have a smelly, contaminated and neglected crawlspace, the air from this is what you breathe.

As stated earlier, up to fifty-two percent of what you breathe comes from your crawlspace.  The air escaping from the highest level is drawing air up from the lowest.  Whatever is in your lowest level is then in your home, on your first floor, in your bedroom, and in your body!  But wait!  Crawlspaces are vented! Right? Does this allow fresh outdoor air (which ALWAYS has higher mold counts than indoor air in a healthy home) to fill your crawlspace / hence you are home?  I hope you know the answer by now.  Based on the aforementioned reasoning, the air in your home is succinctly correlated with the air outdoors if you have a crawlspace that is vented.  On that note, the air in your home is directly affected by the air in your crawlspace.  My testing results have proven that the mold counts in your home are similar to those found in your crawlspace.  In closing, because you can’t stop the air exchange between the crawlspace and living space, it is critical to have a healthy, clean crawlspace if you desire a healthy clean home and body.  What you can’t see CAN hurt you.  Call Douglas Whitehead of ‘Arrayofsolutions.com’ today for a thorough home inspection. 864-710-6413.  Mentioning this article will save you an additional 5% of my standard price scheme.
